Thought Red Dead Redemption would make the wild west a popular backdrop for games? Think again. Ubisoft announced the development of Call of Juarez: The Cartel – the third CoJ game trades in the series’ wild west setting in favor of a modern backdrop. The CoJ is one of the few successful franchises set in the old west. Currently, little is known about the plot of the game, but LA and Juarez, Mexico are confirmed as two of the games’ locales.
It’s a shame, really. CoJ had carved a nice little niche for itself as a story-intensive FPS with an under-utilized setting. Let’s hope that the switch-up doesn’t lead to the series going stale.
Call of Juarez: The Cartel is set to be released this summer.
