Angry Birds Cake is Fully Playable

For my birthday one year when I was a kid, my parents got a Mario-themed cake.  Even though this cake is for Angry Birds, it still blows that one out of the water.  A cake you can play… What can’t nerds do?

Gears of War 3 Chainsaws your Face on September 20th

After a long period in limbo, Gears of War 3 finally has a hard release date again.  Epic Games announced today that Fenix and Co. will be back in action on September 20th.  Epic had been saying that the game would be released this Fall since they retracted their original projected release date, April 5th.

If September feels like an unbearably long time to wait, then go pick up Epic’s newly-released shooter Bulletstorm.  It’s supposed to be a great game, (I’ve only played the demo, which I really liked) AND buying the game on Xbox 360 gets you access to the GoW 3 multiplayer beta.

Super Smash Bros Goes 8-Bit

I’m willing to bet that many, if not most Super Smash Bros fans have wondered what the series would have looked like on Nintendo’s older consoles like SNES, NES and Game Boy.  Super Smash Land FINALLY gives us answers, transposing Nintendo’s number one fighting series to Game Boy-like graphics, etc.

Creator Dan Forace is very passionate about his de-make, though.  The full game has not been released yet, but you get your retro Smash jollies by downloading the demo for windows here.  (Or, if you’re a Mac gamer like me, you can just watch the trailer and drool…)

Red Faction: Armageddon will explode in your hands on May 31st

THQ announced that the next entry in the Red Faction series, Red Faction: Armageddon, will be in stores on May 31st.  Unlike previous games, Armageddon trades the story of a proletariat revolution on Mars for one about killing aliens on Mars.  Of course, who you kill, aliens or oppressors, isn’t that important; as long you can blow holes in walls and make buildings crumble.

Bulletstorm DLC Announced

Bulletstorm has been on shelves for less than 24 hours, but the game already has DLC on the way, according to EA.  The announcement is helping to hype the game, which is receiving tremendous reviews.  DLC for AAA titles is often announced on day one, so it’s not a surprise, really.

The Bulletstorm “Gun Sonata” map pack will include three anarchy maps and two echo mode maps.  “From the wretched Sewers of Stygia to the dilapidated ruins of Hotel Elysium and the open spaces of Villa, the Gun Sonata Anarchy maps provide even more settings for players to work together in order to pull off fantastic team skillshots,” said EA.  The Echo maps are called “Crash Site”, “where Final Echo soldiers must deal with the ramifications of their crashed ship,” and Guns of Stygia, “in which a captive commando escapes from an enemy prison.”

The “Gun Sonata” Pack will cost 9.99 on PSN or 800 MS points.

Shirt of the Week/Day: “Now That’s a Hammer, Bro!”

Game-breaker?

Side Note:  I definitely want to see this way more than the real Thor movie.

Since Teefury only sells their shirts for a single day, you better jump on this fast if you’re interested.  At 12:00 am on Tuesday, it’ll be gone…

Happy Birthday Legend of Zelda!

The original Legend of Zelda on NES went on sale in Japan 25 year ago today.  Link and the Zelda series continue to be among the worlds most recognized gaming icons.  There has been a Legend of Zelda game on every Nintendo console (and one random other one) since the original NES.  Many of those games became generation-defining experiences across each Nintendo console, including Ocarina of Time for the N64, which is often regarded as the single best game ever made. (I’m more of a Link to the Past guy, myself)

So Happy Birthday to Link, Zelda, Gannon and all of their adventures.  Let’s hope Skyward Sword is your best game yet!

Rumor: Modern Warfare 3 Will Be a Ghost-Centric Prequel

According to the UK edition of Official Playstation Magazine, the next Call of Duty game, “Modern Warfare 3”, will actually be a MW prequel to the series revolving around supporting character Ghost.  Fans of the series have been clamoring for more of Ghost since MW2, and rumors of a spin-off or prequel starring Ghost began circulating since January.  In their rumors section, OPMUK mentions “insider whispers” alleging that; “Infinity Ward’s next Modern Warfare title will be a prequel, with Ghost in the lead role.”

Telltale’s Fables Series Kicks Off in Early 2012

Following the announcement that Back to the Future/Jurassic Park developer Telltale Games will be developing two more serialized games based on the comic series The Walking Dead and Fables, Telltale recently added that the first episode of Fables will be released during the first quarter (January-March) of 2012.  Telltale also said that episodes of both the Fables and The Walking Dead will be released over multiple years.

That’s not a lot of information, I know.  Telltale said that we’ll be hearing more about both adaptations at Comic-Con this summer.
